Video Game Review: 'Max Payne 3? is Gaming as Cinematic ...
CHICAGO ? So what?s Max Payne been up to since we last saw him all those years ago? No, not since the horrendous 2008 movie. The movie just doesn?t exist folks. Take a deep breath. It?s been nine years since the last gaming incarnation of Payne. The long wait to the release of Max Payne 3 has seen some things change and some stay the same. Payne is still deeply troubled over the murder of his family and still determined to drown his pain in pills and booze, unable to progress and just as unlucky as ever when he does attempt to. But gone is the New York slum-land. It?s been replaced with a vibrant series of Brazilian night clubs and sun-drenched Sao Paulo locations that come as part of the deal when Payne accepts a security position with one Rodrigo Branco. It?s not fun-in-the-sun or anywhere else. It?s deadly stuff that involves the kidnapping of Branco?s wife, Fabiana, and the slow descent of Max Payne into yet another blood-drenched, action-packed series of shootouts and clue hunts.

Oppo's super-skinny Finder smartphone gets many more details, should reach pre-orders June 6th (video)
The last time we saw Oppo's 6.65mm-thick smartphone, it was playing hard to get: we didn't see much more than its svelte profile. Oppo is now being a little more forthcoming, both officially and otherwise. It's now teasing the device as the Finder, and some escaped details explain just how it's getting to that Ascend P1 S-busting dimension as well as where it sits in the smartphone pantheon. TGBus understands the Finder should use a familiar-sounding 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen -- much thinner than an LCD -- as well as a dual-core 1.5GHz processor of an unspecified make and the virtually pre-requisite 8-megapixel rear and 1.3-megapixel front cameras. The lot should run on a customized version of Android 4.0. If all goes to the still somewhat unofficial plan, the Finder could be ready for pre-orders on June 6th at a not-insignificant ¥3,999 ($631) off-contract. We're mostly waiting on in-store dates and the possibility of snapping one up without a long flight to China.

Introverts Do It Better - Small Business Trends
Throughout my career I have encountered stellar salespeople and snake oil salesmen. The difference between them is like night and day. Snake oil salesmen are the salespeople who are in your face, pushing you to buy. They cajole, convince, persuade, and strong arm their way into a sale. They are pushy and loud, not only in their voice but in their behavior.
They are selling hard because they are always selling. They don?t build relationships so they have to be hunting all the time. They are on the extreme end of the extrovert continuum.
Then we have stellar salespeople. These folks understand they are matching a solution to a need. They build relationships and seek to understand where the prospect is before they offer their solution. They have long term clients and receive referrals regularly. At networking events, they ask a lot of questions and share very little about their product or service.
Stellar salespeople share a lot of characteristics with introverts. The February 6, 2012 cover story for TIME Magazine talks about the ?Power of (shyness).? The author, Bryan Walsh, mentions that:
?Introverts are better at listening ? which, after all, is easier to do if you?re not talking.?
I submit that listening is the number one skill of an exceptional, stellar salesperson. ?According to Bryan, introverts are ?more cautious and deliberate than extroverts.? Introverts ?tend to think things through more thoroughly, which means they can often make smarter decisions.?
Stellar salespeople don?t shoot from the hip; they don?t think they have a ?one size fits all? product or service. Instead, they take what they?ve heard from their prospect and they determine how they can help. If they can, they present a proposal that mirrors the need. If they can?t, they say so.
When introverts network, they spend their time getting to know one or two people. They don?t ?work the room? and hand their business card to everyone. Other people like to speak with introverts because the introvert is genuinely interested in them. The introvert would rather learn about someone else than talk about themselves. Once again, listening plays a key role.
Introverts build deep, lasting relationships. This is key to sales success. Maintaining lasting relationships with clients is far less costly than hunting for new ones. This is also where referrals can come from.
Because introverts are more deliberate in their processing, I submit they are probably viewed as more trustworthy; and trust is critical to sales. If we put all of these characteristics together we see the perfect model of a stellar salesperson ? a trustworthy listener who builds lasting relationships and thinks things through to come to a meaningful solution.
All salespeople would do well to make sure they are embracing these characteristics and skill sets. After all, it?s never been about the salesperson; it?s always been about the prospect. When salespeople stop talking, start listening, and spend their time thinking about how they can help their prospect instead of what they can sell to someone, they will be stellar.
Follow the introvert?s lead ? they come to it naturally.

The PR Toolkit for Nonprofits: Will Nonprofit News Coverage Really ...
When the New York Times announced it?was reassigning writer Stephanie Strom from the philanthropy and nonprofit?beat to business coverage (and nixing the philanthropy beat), it drew attention from Chronicle of Philanthropy and consternation in the twitter-sphere.
The Chronicle opined it was:?"a move that could make it harder for nonprofits to get their stories told to a national audience." The Chronicle also noted that the New York Times was one of the last daily newspapers to employ a reporter to cover national nonprofits on a full-time basis.
But I'm not so sure that nonprofit news coverage is really going to suffer so badly because there is no reporter devoted to philanthropy at the New York Times.
Strom's work on the philanthropy beat was certainly admirable. In 2012, she published about withering excitement on text message donations, Blackbaud offering to buy Convio, a profile of a billionaire helping rebuild Haiti, and the challenges facing MIT and Harvard when collaborating to build the Broad Institute.?Not a lot for two months worth of coverage, but her editors at the NYT clearly needed her to help out with campaign coverage, as her byline pops up a lot?with stories in that area too.
Missing from her coverage were some of the?trending nonprofit stories of our day, including the Komen/Planned Parenthood tussle,? the layaway philanthropy phenomena where people were going to stores and paying off layaway accounts to help people in need, and the?Second?Mile charity?that was embroiled in the Sandusky scandal. While the New York Times covered all of those stories, it used other reporters to write them.
One could argue that it's far better for nonprofit news to be spread across the newsroom with multiple reporters and popping up in several reporting beats, than to be pigeonholed with only one reporter. Just this week, J.? David Goodman published an interesting story in the New York Times on the lessons nonprofits are learning from the Kony 2012 video.
So?how many "national nonprofits"?really got?coverage written by Stephanie Strom in the New York Times? Not that many. Looking back at 2011, here's what Strom actually wrote about on the philanthropy beat:
- December - Cornell being chosen to build a new science school in NYC, a leadership change at the Soros Open Society Foundations.
- November - philanthropic foundations buying stock in for profit companies, Salvation Army bell ringers accepting mobile payments, a wealthy couple donating $150 million to Stanford University's Instutute for Innovation in Developing Economies, a protest by homeless people outside the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's headquarters drawing attention to funding cuts and the need for more nonprofit support, and Congress asking the IRS for oversight of nonprofit hospitals.
- October - a profile of Wal-Mart Foundation's new leader, the creation of hybrid flexible-purpose?companies that turn a profit but place social goals ahead of making money, and church pastors tackling politics from the pulpit.
- September - PepsiCo's expansion of its chickpea crop in Ethiopia?with extra food being utilized by the World Food Program, a billionaire hedge fund manager founding the Center for the Next Generation,??GOOD's acquisition of Jumo, the state of California's scrutiny of nonprofit tax exemptions,
- August - how famine relief doesn't get donations when it's not covered in the media
- July - philanthropists require nonprofits to take management courses, three advocacy groups losing tax-exempt status, the IRS drops audits of donors to political groups, and the World Bank's work in humanitarian response
- June - a charity goes mobile to enlist teens in volunteering, charitable giving increases for the first time since 2007, a new paper claiming that corporate social responsiblity programs do less good than just focusing on running a good company, the IRS ends tax exemptions for 275,000 nonprofits, and Louisville confronts obesity
- May - a new website offering to make donations for charity if users manage their email through the site, a controversial group wins nonprofit status, and the IRS moves to tax groups active?in politics.?
- April - a donation to MIT raises tax questions, the closure of Kanye West's charity, controversy over Greg Mortenson's memoir and "Three Cups of Tea" charity, nonprofits closing after fulfilling their missions, and the Salvation Army suing the Bank of New York over security losses.

What is Phlebotomy Certification in Career of Healthcare?

Certification? can be described as the process by which a recognized national organization or company recognizes the aptitude of someone in a given discipline or field. As such, phlebotomy certification is a recognized one and today there are over ten organizations in the U.S. that are known to offer certifications in phlebotomy.
As employment opportunities in the health care fraternity become more and more competitive, credit through certification is becoming very common since employers today rarely hire graduates with no phlebotomy certification. This holds true despite the fact that only Louisiana and California legally require a graduate to be certified by a recognized body in order to practice as a phlebotomist.
Why, you might be wondering. Without any show of skills and competency, one can put an employer at risk of a lawsuit in the event that an error occurs. Hiring an uncertified individual could become more of a liability than an asset for an employer especially considering the fact that in the phlebotomy field, most errors occur in the lab during the pre-analytical phase.
Certification in phlebotomy is given to individuals who meet the set requirements by the certification bodies, which is done through an examination. Some organizations or certification bodies go ahead to even require a re-certification through future examinations and continuing education credits for one to continue using the phlebotomy certification earned.
Even though most of these phlebotomy certification exam are written on paper, due to advancement in technology, people seeking to get certified in phlebotomy can now do it on the computer. Tests done on the computer are quite dynamic and apply a technology known as the ?CAT?. This allows the PC to select the next question in queue based on the answers to the previous question. Regardless of the certification body you choose to work with, the examination will always have very similar information. This is because people who take the phlebotomy training course will have been taught both the practical and theoretical knowledge required to successfully sit the examination.
Not everyone who wishes to get phlebotomy certification should be a fresh graduate. There are people who are already in the job market for years but simply want to advance their credentials to increase their odds of promotion and salary increment. If you fall into this category, it is advisable to take your precious time and thoroughly study the exam materials before sitting for the examination.

Nearly 11 feet of snow has fallen on Anchorage, Alaska, this winter. That's almost a record, and it's forcing the city to haul away at least 250,000 tons of snow. Yet not much snow has dropped on the Lower 48 this year.
The first three months of 2012 have seen twice the normal number of tornadoes. And 36 states set daily high temperature records Thursday. So far this month, the U.S. has set 1,757 daily high temperature records. That's similar to the number during last summer's heat wave, said Jake Crouch, a climate scientist for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Six rare, but not unprecedented, March tornadoes struck Thursday in Michigan, which also set 26 heat records. Temperatures were in the 80s in some parts of the state.
Nationwide, there have been 132 tornadoes confirmed in January and February, with preliminary reports of more than 150 already in March.
Two different weather phenomena ? La Nina and its northern cousin the Arctic Oscillation ? shift storm and temperature patterns through the world, meteorologists say. Scientists say you cannot link a single weather event to global warming.
However, climate scientist Andrew Weaver of the University of Victoria says: "When you start to see the extreme events become more common, that's when you can say that it is a consequence of global warming."

New iPad foils reviewers' attempts to find legitimate faults

The new iPad will be available on Friday, but reviews of it are already floating around?? courtesy of those lucky enough to chosen by Apple for a sneak peek of the device. So what's being said about the latest Apple gadget? The same things that are said about any upgraded Apple gadget, of course.
The basic message sent by the early reviewers is that the new iPad is faster and better than its predecessor. Oh, and that it has a significantly improved screen.
No surprises there, right?
Once one reads past all the usual ooh-ing and ahhh-ing, it becomes clear that this batch of reviewers was very intent on finding some sort of faults with the new iPad. And that makes perfect sense, doesn't it? After all, Apple does a great job when it comes to telling you why you should want a new iPad?? someone needs to figure out if all the claims made are true and whether there are any hidden imperfections.
So what have the early reviewers discovered so far?
The New York Times' David Pogue thought it irksome that apps designed for the new iPad's high-resolution Retina display?require significantly more memory than the current ones. "Tests performed by Macworld.com revealed that the graphics in Retina-ready apps consume two to three times as much of the iPad?s nonexpandable storage than pre-Retina apps," he explains. "To update their apps for the new display, software companies must redo their graphics at much higher resolution, which means much larger files."
Despite declaring that the "new iPad makes Apple's tablet domination clearer than ever," TechCrunch's MG Siegler?has a couple of things to pick on.?"I?ve found it takes quite a bit longer to charge the new iPad," he writes. "[S]everal hours ? you?ll probably want to do it overnight."
Siegler also called attention to the device's tendency to get a bit warm. "One other slight downside which I have to assume is related to either the battery or the LTE functionality is that unlike previous iPad models, the new iPad does get noticeably warm in the lower left corner after prolonged use," he explains before adding that "[i]t?s never hot, just warm."
The Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg mostly focused on specs when it came to the iPad's shortcomings. "Mostly to make room for a larger battery, the new iPad weighs about 8% more and is about 7% thicker than the prior model," he writes. "While the weight gain was noticeable, I didn't find it a problem even for long reading or video-watching sessions. The extra thickness was barely discernible."
Like Mossberg,?Macworld.com's Jason Snell?seemed irked by the new iPad's slight weight gain. "In my review of the iPad 2, I suggested a rule of Apple product evolution I called 'Jobs?s Law' ? that the latest version of any Apple product is likely to be thinner and lighter than its predecessor," he tells readers. "The third-generation iPad breaks that law."
Snell?also found that the device didn't really run much faster than the iPad 2 in tests. "Which is not to say it?s slow ? they?re the two fastest iOS devices ever," he quickly clarified though.
The Verge's Josh Topolsky expressed his appreciation for the timeless design of the iPad, but ? while he doesn't mind that the third-generation device looks like its predecessor ? he was a bit annoyed that some minor design quirks still exist. "I'm sure there are many reasons why Apple chose to put the 3.5mm port in the upper left-hand corner of the device (in portrait)/lower left-hand corner (in landscape), but I feel like it would make a lot more sense on the bottom of the device," he explains. "Secondly, it would be nice to be able to dock the iPad in landscape mode, but that would require a second 30-pin dock connection on the side of the tablet."
Topolsky's colleague Dieter Bohn adds that there's one more pesky thing about the new iPad: It won't allow you to use FaceTime over LTE. " It's the exact same behavior that iOS devices on 3G networks have always exhibited, but it's doubly frustrating as Verizon's LTE plans for the new iPad include Wi-Fi hotspot functionality at no extra cost," he clarifies. "In other words, you could easily initiate a Wi-Fi hotspot from your new Verizon LTE iPad and use it to successfully make a FaceTime call from an iPhone ? likely with little to no degradation in video quality as compared to a Wi-Fi connection, since LTE is so fast."
SlashGear's Vincent Nguyen's?main qualm appears to be the absence of Siri. "Apple?s personal digital assistant was introduced ??in beta ??on the iPhone 4S, but is still exclusive to the smartphone," he explains for those who might be unfamiliar with the feature. "The new iPad instead gets voice dictation, with a new microphone button on the keyboard that does speech-to-text in apps."
USA Today's Edward Baig?notes that the iPad's diction feature "almost always spits out results right away, but doesn't always hear correctly." "For example," he elaborates, "the word 'maybe' was heard as 'baby.' But more often than not the accuracy was decent enough that it wouldn't take long to manually fix errors. Even the commas were typically put in the right places."
No major faults so far, right? Like, the headline says, the new iPad certainly foiled reviewers attempts to find something wrong.
What it boils down to, in the words of Pogue, is that the "new iPad doesn?t introduce anything that we haven?t seen before, either in the iPhone or in rival tablets ... Apple just took its white-hot iPad and added the latest screen, battery and cellular technologies."
He's not saying that you shouldn't buy it though. Of course you should buy it ? unless you already have one.
